Fishing From Land
The easiest way to get started is to fish or crab from the Cape Shores private pier. It is less than a 5 minute walk from the front door.
The pier is well maintained pier that goes out far enough to cash nice flounder. It is easiest to get to the pier from the road by foot or bicycle, but you can usually get up to the pier from the beach if the ladder is down. The pier also has several sinks with running water and cutting boards for quick clean up.
During the day it gets very hot, but in the mornings, evening and night it is very pleasant. If you do go out in the day, think about a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and lots of water.
We try to keep a few crab pots handy in the garage. If you need fishing tackle, the closest store is at the Cape Henlopen Fishing Center or on their Facebook page. Cape Henlopen also has a fishing pier that you can see from our pier, but it is in a bit of disrepair and can be quite crowded. You can also find tackle and lots more at some of the other stores listed below as well at Walmart.
Finally, parts of Cape Henlopen State Park offer surf fishing from the beach. Review those requirements here.
Advanced Fishing
There are big fish out they and the Gulf current is several hours drive off the coast. It is not cheap and you need to start early, but it can be amazing.
